For perfect porridge you need 1 part oats to 2 1/2 parts milk. 50g of oats makes roughly one adult serving of porridge. It helps if you have a cup or glass which fits 50g or 100g of oats (depending on how many people you are making porridge for) to speed things up in the morning.
A great tip is to soak the oats in the milk for around 10 minutes before cooking for a smoother porridge. Top your porridge with chopped fruit and to get one of your 5-a-day with your breakfast. For kids, sweeten naturally with mashed banana.

- 50g Oats
- 300ml milk
- Honey, sugar and fruit to serve (optional)
- Pop the oats and milk in a pan. Slowly bring the porridge to the boil, turn the heat low and simmer for 6 minutes stirring from time to time so it doesn't stick.
- Pour into bowls and sweeten with honey, brown sugar or golden syrup to taste. Top with fresh fruit and a dollop of natural yogurt if you like.
